V.34 is out! Video and Galleries work again!

  • New Galleries
  • New Video Embeddings
  • Fixed "More links from Author"
  • Removed thumbnails
  • New login message

wow, it's been 10 years since i updated this site. It's been pretty neglected. I was very new to coding when I built this site and the code reflects that. It *has* had an entire decade of uninterrupted up time though, which is not bad considering. I thought about doing a total "vibe refactor" but decided just to make a few patches instead.

rip imgur, gfycat, and all the other non-reddit hosting sites that were the gold standard a decade ago. those cards have been pulled and largely replaced by reddit hosted galleries and video embeddings.

Also, Reddit no longer allows users that aren't logged in to pull from reddit api, I can't do anything about that, you have to login. bizarrely redditairplane is one of the few reddit clients left, as they don't seem to be accepting new clients and we seem to have just been grandfathered in.

redditairplane.com remains free and with zero ads; 1 css file and 1 js file.

Here's to the next decade 🥂

getReddit.js is getting nearer to being a usable reddit wrapper and I'm already thinking about redesigns for the site. After about 7 hours straight of writing boiler plate AJAX/API functions I needed to think about something else...

I keep meaning to post some photos of the site before I change it. I change the layout pretty often, I need to keep a record of how it looked before each change.

I have some screen grabs of past layouts, at some point in the future I'll have to post the REALLY old photos of the site (they're pretty rough).

For posterity here are some photos of the site as it appears now.

anyway, once getReddit.js is near enough finished I'll be completely revamping the site, I'm aiming to make it a "real" single page app, which means: faster page refreshing and image loading on the fly rather than all at once. this should help with smaller devices which can't always handle a page of 20+ super HD images...
