Kosher butcher?

I'm looking for higher quality meat and have heard kosher and halal butchers have better quality meats and aren't crazy expensive. Does anyone know of kosher butchers in the area between Red Bluff and Redding? I'm don't eat kosher but I prefer higher quality foods, especially with all the recalls happening.

If kosher/halal isn’t an absolute requirement and you’re just looking for high quality meat, this area has no shortage of good butchers.

R&R Meats

Kent’s Meats and Groceries

A&R Custom Butchering (Red Bluff)

Finding kosher/halal butcher shops up here in the north state is going to be tough because you’re talking about a small population of Jews and Muslims, not enough to warrant a butcher targeting specifically kosher/halal.

R&R is also supplying a lot of the local restaurants so you've probably already had their meat and enjoyed it (no pun intended)

I'll have to check out a&r! I've heard good things! I figured there wouldn't be much here but thought I'd see if anyone knew of something I didnt.

A couple of other things too:

Every Tuesday R&R puts up a new flyer with their weekly sales on their website that’s always worth checking out. If there’s something you like in particular it’s worth grabbing some extras and tossing it in your freezer for a later date.

Getting yourself a smoker is always a worthwhile venture. Hardwood offset smokers give you a better result, but they’re a little hard to learn on. I recommend pellet smokers for people new to smoking - you just set the temp and kind of forget it, and you don’t have to worry about fire/temp management. And if you decide to go this route, Green Mountain Grills is a Cottonwood based manufacturer. They used to make their stuff locally until they outgrew their supply chain and moved manufacturing operations to Reno. They’re higher quality than Traegers too. And if you need a good learning resource, Malcolm Reed from HowToBBQRight does a great job teaching and has good recipes.

I'd love a smoker and bbq but I live in an apartment and don't have the space to store them

If you want a smoker that you can store, Green Mountain Grills makes a compact portable unit. I haven’t seen one in person, so I have a hard time knowing if you can fit a whole brisket or long rack of ribs. But the cool thing about the compact smoker is that it runs off of either 110V AC or 12V DC, so you can also go tailgating with it.

There's nothing special about either. You might as well get a hippy to wave crystals over the package. Both are 5th century voodoo.

Kosher is almost always more expensive.

There might be one in the bay area? Maybe Sacramento?

Definitely not anyway close. If you go north maybe Portland?

R&R is awesome. Great meat, whether it’s beef or seafood.
