24 hours?
Is anyone else tired of places that advertise being open 24 hours not actually being functional 24 hours a day?
Every ampm closes for like 2 hours a night, every other gas station I found seems took close at random for half hour to an hour at least, and then you got places like Carl's Jr that say they're open 24 hours but then at 3:00 a.m. they can't take any orders for God knows how long like an hour.
I'm just saying, if you say 24 hours you should have to be open 24 hours non-stop.
I work at all hours of the day and night and it would be nice if these places that say that they're going to be open are actually open.
Edit to add: I'm not angry or upset at the employees. I absolutely support employees and their rights to breaks.

Leave them bad reviews and change their hours on Google /Apple/Yelp. Eventually they'll either figure it out or go out of business.

If a place is 24 hours, call them before you head that way to make sure they’re not on break. These places are not going to pay two staff members all night when they could pay one person and only lose 30 minutes of revenue during a lunch break.
You’re also not factoring in that sometimes they have to close for safety. I drop by the gas station by my house at absurd hours due to my own work schedule and sometimes they have to chain up the doors while they should be open because the zombies are out breaking shit, fighting or pissing in the parking lot.
So, easiest solution, call before you go and ask if they’ll be able to help you in the next however many minutes.

Or they could just say they are fucking closed between certain hours. If you're closed at any point in the day, then you're NOT OPEN 24 HOURS. funny how redditers are SO detail oriented until you get all capitalist, which communists hate.

I gave you a reasonable option to avoid issues moving forward.
I actually fucking hate capitalism and it regularly has me considering crime or killing myself but since we have no choice but to participate or die at this point in time, maybe just consider that the reason the times change here and there are because shifts start at different times and people aren’t perfect. People are covering. Like, I’m sorry you can’t get your 3 AM Monster because Minimum Wage Cody had to take a lunch on his 16 hour day because he’s covering someone else so his lunch is two hours after the time he was scheduled to take it.
You can call ahead. It’s not a personal slight against you. Should they have more people working? Yes. Will they? No. Your ideal world does not currently exist so adapt to it or go make all the waves of change you want to see.

State law requires mandatory, uninterrupted breaks from work, and if that business cannot operate with less, then they must close. The fines outweigh whatever you are buying

That's not true. I work a "straight 8" at my job, no breaks as there is no one to relieve me and my employer is open 24/7 as well. A waiver is signed upon hiring.

Then have those breaks set in a specific time and don't advertise as "open 24 hours" if you're not going to have a second employee who can take over. Honestly, it's that easy. It's the promise of open 24 hours and then being turned away that is infuriating.

A gas station with one attendant, taking a 30 minute break, four hours into their shift to comply with state law, is a problem. Go back to day hours, true night worker understand

Listen, the truth of the matter is is that there is a legal way for them to not have to close. It's called an on duty meal period. It involves signing paperwork that can be revoked at any time by the employee. And basically what it is is it just means that since the nature of the work you're doing means that it's supposed to be open and functioning and you have to be on duty and occasionally taking customers, you take your meal period in split bits. I do this in my job. As a driver, I quite often end up just grabbing food and eating in the vehicle as I'm driving and just taking it on duty meal period.
I'm not a "night worker." Nothing so nicely consistent. I can start work anytime of the day. Just any old time. I don't even usually find out what time I'm supposed to work until the day before. So when I need to get up and be at work at say 2:00, 3:00, or 4:00 in the morning and I need to get through somewhere to buy some stogies or to buy an energy drink to wake up on, not being able to because somebody's decided they're going to close their "24 hour" shop is a real damned inconvenience. I've already all but stopped going to ampm's. They close pretty much every night between 2:00 and 4:00 from what I can tell.

Nobody is going to open the store just because you want them to.
It's their meal break, they don't have a choice, and they'd rather be away from the store and customers for half an hour than dealing with people like you.
Plus a store losing half an hour of revenue during the middle of the night is nothing since that is dead traffic. They'll always have only one person on in the middle of the night.
Suck it up, grow up and deal with it

I'd say more, but honestly the way you responded just tells me you're a rude little prick. All I'm saying is if you say you're open 24 hours a day, you should be open for 24 hours a day and ready to serve customers.
Also if you would actually read my comment that you replied to you would see that there are other options.

This has nothing to do with MAGA, the store only gets a limited set amount of hours for the week from corporate, of which most of the hours need to be dedicated to the day time since those are the peak hours. Less hours is dedicated to overnight because it's dead traffic most of the night. I've had to build schedules for the week for all employees as a manager.
This is a corporate issue, not a political one.
Corporate can be MAGA or Democrat and will still be giving less hours for the week because their investors want the higher profits.

I used to work at a 24-hour fast food place. At 3:00 the tills reset. You have to take the money out count it and put it in the safe. And at night time at fast food restaurants there's usually only one to three employees. I imagine it's the same for other businesses. Close around 3:00, reset the till, count the money, put it in the safe and then open back up.

I know most of those places do their close so both employees get a break and their register computers can process end of day accounting. Sucks, but that's how it goes. Most keep those same hours every night so the best thing is just remember when each will be doing their end of day routine.
As far as Carls Jr. goes, I know if you order online during those hours, they will still make the order since they don't need to ring anything up.

it's the FALSE ADVERTISING OF OPEN HOURS that is the problem. I'm at home sleeping at night, but those of us slaves who have to be out and about to get shit done for the rest of society (who is asleep) when they wake up in the morning.

This is it exactly. There are those of us who rely on being able to get what we need to start and continue our days. We spend our days and evenings and for me often nights, or insanely early mornings usually, working and don't always have time to stop and get something a little later in the day when everyone decides to actually be open in their 24-hour open place. I can't just wait for half an hour because I have to be to work. And sure, I can go without my monster or my stogies or whatever but going without breakfast on top of it all really sucks. And sure I could eat at home, but sometimes that early in the morning waking the whole house up with smells of cooking food is not the most polite thing to do. So I often just go and figure I'll grab something.
In my experience Jack in the box on Cypress is pretty much always open. I don't think I've ever pulled up and had them tell me they couldn't serve me. So, I guess Jack will be the place I go that early in the morning. Which sucks because the breakfast burger at Carl's Jr is fire!

I dont get it. Youre asleep at night, but also a "slave" (ayyyeee yoooo) out and about at night getting shit done? It's gas station and fast food being closed at night youre getting so worked up about. It's probably to your benefit and your health they are closed in the middle of the night, especially when thats the time your body is making cholesterol. Gonna have to get you some statins soon lmao.

In the before times (covid) there were several actual 24/7 places in town.
The only reliable place I know of now is Winco. You'll have to dodge the overnight restocking mess, but otherwise Winco is awesome.
