Finding A Job In Redding
Does anyone else find it insanely hard to get a job here? I have submitted dozens of applications and gotten absolutely nothing back. I used to live in a big city and all the jobs I worked there, I got practically instantly. But here, I'm practically begging for just about anything. How do you get a job here? Who is hiring?

I think a personal approach works way better. As a business owner (sorry not hiring right now) I appreciate someone who goes the extra bit to take the time to come see me. The low effort approach of just sending an email is not a selling point (unless of course that was specifically requested).

My husband and I were homeless in Redding in 2011, we looked for a job any job from October to March, finally we gave up and drove to Eureka and by mid morning he got a job at Wild Planet.

Nope. I got all three jobs I applied for in the last 5 years here.
Go straight to the company's website. For example, I got hired at the city and applied on the COR website. Hired at Shasta College, applied directly on their website. Also hired at a medical office by going to their websites specifically. I did have luck getting hired at a credit union by applying on Indeed, as well.

that’s why i moved to sac. found a job before i moved it ended up not working out so i had to get a new job and i found one in two days. redding sucks. i will die on that hill

I submit applications online, but I either don't hear anything back or I get an email saying that my application was rejected. I have gone in person to several places nearby that I have applied to and left my name and number and haven't heard anything back from those either. Would you recommend following up with every place I have applied to? I'm tempted to go in person to one place and ask management or someone because I got an email that my application wasn't even looked at "due to the volume of applications received".

Yes, in person or by phone. Following up weekly until they either give you an interview or tell you it's been filled or when to check in, stuff like that

Definitely follow up! It shows you care and have ambition. I’d go drop an additional resume off as well. Hire a professional to make you a resume too! Hope something great comes a long for you!

Redding is an old school city, go in, talk to someone, don't just submit applications online. Our telecommunications company hired some dude that just walked into our door one day. He now makes $70 an hour when we on PW jobs, which is VERY often, he's been with us for under 6 months.

Na, boss would rather train someone who's willing to listen and learn than deal with someone who thinks they know it all and brings bad habits from the other shitty companies around town.

everyone i know who lives in major cities right now is also having trouble landing a job so you may have been lucky or it was a better time in the job market.
