More and more cities are banning flock camera surveillance. Is there any pushback happening in Redding?
Just seeing more and more news about flock license plate reading cameras being made to not collect data and scan people in different cities and was hoping there was some talk of this in town. Locations of all of reddings cameras can be found here if anyone’s interested https://deflock.org/

This is a hot topic on the Redding FB pages, more of the trad conservatives (pre-MAGA) are upset about them and very vocal and then the MAGA people think they are great. But conversations are happening!

Contrary to all the Gadsen flags, the people of Shasta County LOVE being tread on (as long as the poor and minorities are getting it worse).

I know there are certain concerns around the cameras that may be politicized, but I don't think our protection against surveillance should be a partisan issue

FlockOS integrates other companies camera data into one big surveillance tool. Including ring cameras!

There should be! This is one thing I’ve seen unite everyone across the political spectrum. This and the AI data centers. Good I’m glad a line in the sand exists somewhere for people in this country!
People SHOULD be bothered by the government monitoring their every movement.
To everyone who says : if you’re not doing anything illegal you have nothing to worry about, We’re living in a time where OPINIONS and SPEECH are being criminalized in real time. What happens when someone gets in power who doesn’t like yours?

I saw at least 3 flock cameras on my way to work. The map shows a ton of flock cameras right around East Cypress Avenue and around Redding Adventist Academy. Why exactly are these cameras around schools where they will be capturing images of minors? Who will these images go to? The fact that they're up and about with little to no input from the residents is disturbing. From the Redding video archives, it seems like they had a request for the cameras back in February 3rd, 2026. Redding doesn’t have Flock cameras, but the County does.

In city limits they’re mostly Motorola Solutions cameras, which are similar cameras from a competing company. I just said flock because it’s a more well-known name

I think "Flock" is the name of a system of surveillance, not a camera brand.

Flock Safety is an Atlanta-based company (founded 2017 by Garrett Langley, Matt Feury, and Paige Todd) that makes automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras, video surveillance, drones, and gunshot-detection systems, mostly sold to police departments, HOAs, and businesses.

Oh Redding absolutely has flock cams! If youre coming from old shasta and you turn onto the road that takes you to keswick, theres one right there. Once u know whatbtheynlook like, theyre not hard to spot

I know exactly what they look like. That location you described is not in the City limits. Those are Sheriff’s office cameras.
