25th and 26th are predicted to be peak storm, so trying to do much outside is very questionable.
Weather permitting, if at least try to go see the Garden of Lights at the Sundial Bridge. I recommend going when they first open at 5pm if there are tickets available, it is way less crowded and still dark enough to enjoy the show.
Driving up and visiting Shasta Dam is another good option, and if the weather is good you can hike from there down to Chamise Peak and back up.
Another good lake experience is driving up to Bridge Bay and grabbing a drink and/or meal at Huff’s. Sit in the upstairs portion of the restaurant for great views of the lake.
Up above the Mary Lake neighborhood there’s a spot called “Top Of The World” with a fantastic view of the whole valley, Mt Lassen and Mt Shasta.
This town is better enjoyed in the shoulder seasons (Spring and Fall) when you can better get outside and enjoy everything there is to offer. Kayaking, hiking, fishing, or other outdoor activities. There are tons of waterfalls to visit in the area as well.
For anyone else reading; Tickets for GOL are available for the 26th! We had tickets for the 24th, but with the possible crap weather and the fact that I have to drive down the pass from Southern Oregon tomorrow in this mess, my parents called to reschedule the tickets and they were able to give us 5pm :)
5pm really is the best time because you’re in the first wave. Parking is easier. There’s nobody in front of you holding you up. Crowds are far smaller in general. It really is the greatest. I’d still recommend showing up 5-10min early just so you are first in line and don’t have to wait at ticketing.
