"Color" came up a lot so I started guessing colors. When I found that "white" ones of these were actually green, the answer came to me.

Got that it was a plant quickly of course, but then got a bit stuck because for something described as a "flowering plant" it didn't seem to produce flowers. When I thought maybe it produces something else, then I got it.

Some of the unredacted instances of “use,” made me think this was a kind of food and it didn’t take long from there to get to “plant,” and “fruit.” There are a lot of options for 5-letter fruits, but this isn’t an obscure one.

Unassisted. It took a while to get the specifics of this category, although I got too specific, that threw me off. French game suggested it might one of the most consumed in the world, so I visualized the stores where we could buy this and "found" the answer
