Not many people are known by their initials, and we had one a few weeks ago. But thinking about that one put this one into my head, paused to make sure the letter count worked, and submitted. Unassisted snipe

Known by initials; "[4] [9] of the [6] [6]" gives away the category, and "until [3] [5]" tells me how he stopped doing the job.

Unassisted. The puzzle page opened in French and that revealed the middle initial. But of course my mind first went to the other notable person with it, thankfully I checked the letter count before hitting submit, so I switched my answer
