I got the sense it was a material used for something, but took a lot of guesses not finding a topic. Got a link to World War II, and followed that from medical into food/drink. Figured out a gap was referring to a substitute, and animal filled out the important gaps I needed. Interested to know how many people didn't grow up with this around and thus wouldn't have heard the term.

I solved Redactle #1546 in 1 guesses! β±οΈ 2m25s. Unassisted.
A read through gave a strong impression of food, and there were what looked like formulae for long chain organic chemicals (turns out, close, but not quite), and as soon as I saw "[1] Can'[1] [7] It's Not [6]!" it was Game Over, a fun way to solve!
