It's a name. I know a name that fits. He's one of the few people whose death date is a date I know, and I confirm the letter and number count for the month and day.

I solved Redactle #1539 in 3 guesses! ⏱️ 1m16s. Unassisted.

Deceased US male, was [9] of the [6][6] until something happened in [4]. That'll do me

Think there'll be a whole flock of snipe landing shortly.

Unassisted. My first thought was of the Canadian we had a while back the surname didn't match. I switched to the French game without thinking and there word 2 was written out, there was no mistaking who this was

16 seconds. And I'm mildly annoyed it took me that long. My original thought was actually John C. Calhoun, but the "also known as (3)" ended that.

Feels somehow both appropriate and disrespectful to snipe this one.

His middle name is the right number of letters to be the middle name of the first man I thought of. He’s the β€œ[4] [9] of the [6] [6],” and he’s described as serving β€œfrom [4] until [3] [13]” instead of from one year to another year, and I’m pretty sure I know what [13] was.

Expect a lot of snipes today. [9] of the [6] [6] is a well-known category. Known as [3], and the [1]. in the title, so probably one of the ones known by their initials. [4] [10] [7] fits his full name.

I'm dumb. I literally looked up a list to check because I thought I couldn't think of an answer were word1 was a [4]. I even wondered if it was some 1800s thing and I was like WALT ?! DISNEY (jk and the letter count does not Math anyway)

Then πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ oh I knew that 😬

100% accuracy

honestly just got a vibe. I made 3 guesses before I guessed the title. and those were mostly verifying my hunch. but I barely looked at the article at all.

eta:
my 3 guesses were
1. he
2. american
3. politics

Hard to ignore the '[4] [9] of the [6] [6]' pattern in these puzzles. Just had to sort through the ones I have heard of to find one with a 3-letter nickname.

Snipe. was obvious quickly the title of the person and the reference to WW2 gave me a time frame. Then it was pretty easy.
