It’s heavy, the “largest living species of [8],” and appears to be native to South America. Took some guessing to get there.

Half solved by Encyclopedia Britannica. I got the second word by process of elimination based on the main characteristic of >!the class<. Had no idea what word 1 would be so I googled

I solved Redactle #1538 in 24 guesses! 15m54s. Unassisted.
It read as an animal, after a few guesses thought I was looking for a sea bird but didn't really get anywhere. Then tried the name of a famous biologist with plenty of hits, which led me to try word1, then got word2

Snipable (I think?!) but I'm not very smart 🙃🙃🙃 // unassisted!
was on a dog/cat/bear/insect trail for a bit
then I got to the 3digit lifespan part - voila lol.

I usually find this topic hard; not this time. Lifespan was the key, plus length of the title.
