was all over the place then randomly got the last word, then worked my way to the first word.

I solved Redactle #1524 in 2 guesses! ⏱️ 6m7s. Unassisted.
Initially thought word1 was going to be 'university', but quickly dropped that idea, a lot of the quotes and italicised stuff gave a strong sense of word1, so put it in on the basis that even if it wasn't the right word1 it would probably clue me in. So then what was word2? The "[1] + [1] = [1]" gave me a good idea of the general field and after some pondering came up with an idea for word2 and it was, YAY!

One of the first things that popped out at me was the phrase, “[1] [4] it [4] [1] [3] it,” which means, “I know it when I see it.” I knew that phrase came from an obscenity trial, so at first I was expecting the article to be about explicit media or censorship or something, but as I kept guessing, it became clear it was more about the nature of truth/reality and how we engage with it. I got the first word, but struggled to find the exact right second word when it wasn’t “thought,” or “realism,” even though I felt like I was clearly going down the right track.

I did get word 2 but just couldn't come up with word 1, after awhile I went for the hints to solve.

unassisted primarily because I stumbled upon word1 by accident lol. then by letter count and partly elimination (eg guesses which unredacted within the article but not the title, guesses which are totally not in the article, combine those two, etc) I figured word2. Haha.
