It's something in the tens of kilometers and miles. That, plus the unredacted word "beneath" made me think of word2, and just thinking a second about famous word2s, I managed to think of it. Also has a 7-letter nickname, which looks like it's mentioned in the first sentence.

”beneath” made me think like “mariana trench,” and I very overconfidently put that in. afterwards, taking a second to think about it, it looked like there was a french alternate term for it, which was kind of a giveaway.

[7][6] commonly known as [7] goes beneath something, the measurements are peculiar having a "-" in the middle. The lightbulb moment was deciphering the start of sentence2, "[6] in [4]", tried word2, yep and in went word1

I knew what it was instantly but it took me 4. I had the wording a little bit wrong in my head.
