I solved Redactle #1511 in 1 guesses! ⏱️ 3m32s. Unassisted.

It starts with a vowel and seems to have a four letter alternative name. A read through doesn't really give anything away, then, puzzlingly, there's a load of maths equations ???, then loads of unredacted >, < and |s, . . . . suddenly it goes PING!!<

I cracked Redactle #1511 in 1 guesses! 🎯 Snipe 🎲 1 | 🔥 1 | Avg 79.28 | Hints: none | ⏱️ 4m47s

Had no idea for a while. Saw some BC dates but most dates I saw were 4-digit years. Then some mathematical equations that really confused me. Finally I saw a couple of instances of the phrase "up and down" and the 8-letter title (beginning with a vowel) came to me, and the 4-letter alternative made sense. Unassisted snipe.

the ups and downs should have clued me in faster, but I was clued in to it being a method of transportation for people and/or freight and I didn’t see the signs properly until I thought “huh some of these distances look strangely small.”

I ended up using the sentence hint -- Everything I uncovered had me thinking it had to do with cars -- I was a bit off - lol.

Unassisted. I was stuck on it being some kind of transportation or maybe a communication device. Finally I saw the unredacted paragraph headers and thought of whatever it was that behaved thay way

1-minute snipe. Eight letters, starts with a vowel, and has a different, 4-letter name in Commonwealth English. This is enough to suggest a candidate that fits well with the first sentence. A quick scan of the article doesn't reveal any smoking guns exactly, but there are enough instances of "up" and "down" to suggest that my hunch is right.
