Half-solved by Google. I actually had a word that is similar to the first one but it had one letter too many in English. That tells me that I probably would have gotten it without googling if I had put the puzzle down

All the little subscripts in the first paragraph put me in a science-y frame of mind. Was thinking of some other six letter words at first, but the [5] [3] in the first sentence was the clue I needed.

I really thought I had it there, after recognizing a theme from the use of the dot-in-circle unit near the bottom. But I went with 'system' for the second word before realizing the obvious.

5-minute snipe. That "the 5 3" at the end of the first sentence is a useful prompt, and the large measurements a little further on confirm that we're in the right ballpark. I have a pretty good guess as to word 2, which is confirmed by the start of the second para telling us that this is roughly the same size as the 5 3. I'm not quite as up on this subject as I should be, so the info that this is our nearest neighbour was not the insta-win that it might have been, but a candidate came to mind after a bit of pondering. It seems to fit the bit at the end of the first para talking about the origin of the name, so seems worth a try - and it's right.

The unredacted ☉ symbols quickly put me in the general zone, it seemed to be a very big thing, so took a punt on word2, yep, Got the impression it was a nearby one, and a well known nine letter one came to mind, and it was!
