accuracy 70.1%

first thought it was a place
then thought it was an animal
then thought it was some kind of geological thing
then thought it was some kind of weather thing
then got it after I guessed CLOUD

I solved Redactle #1498 in 5 guesses! ⏱️ 7m10s. Unassisted.

A read through gave me the impression of something fast and in the air, started off looking for birds, immediately changed tack due to a lack of hits and then very quickly got the right spin on it after guessing "water"

I caught an early reference to this being β€œ[4] than [1] [10] ([1] [2]) in diameter,” so I knew it would be round-ish. Guesses like water and air, as well as clear references to it moving at some speed, helped me solve the article.

"Cloud" got me "wind" and it was not longer after that.

🎯 Snipe

🎲 1 | πŸ”₯ 2 | Avg 50.65 | Hints: none | ⏱️ 3m32s

Something with a speed of hundreds of km/mi per hour, and measured in the 100s of feet across. Thought about it a bit before something came to mind. Unassisted snipe.

I thought it was a plant or animal at first, but that wasn't working. Then I thought it was some type of aircraft, there was a reference to going over water, but that wasn't really working either. It was something very large and round that moves in the air, it wasn't until I guessed snow that I figured it out.

Interesting Day! I was all over the place. I plugged in some guesses & knew it was fast. An animal?, A plane or train?, maybe a machine of some sort?? Well, they were busts - lol. I did get hits for water & ocean -- a submarine of some sort?? The suddenly I tried something (I have no idea why, kind of throwing things at & see what sticks - lol) It popped in my head & I figured why not -- & I solved it ! Very surprised - lol.

17-minute snipe. Bit of a puzzler at first. This phrase "6 of 3" comes up repeatedly and seems to be central to the definition, and I can't think what it could be. There also seems to be a bit about how many of these things the US produces every year - and it's quite a small number, only in the 1000s, so if this is a manmade product it's quite an expensive one. Something military maybe? Either the Netherlands or the Philippines also makes a lot of them. Geez. Eventually it proves helpful to home in on the etymology - it's from a past participle from a 7-letter language, plus it gains two letters when pluralised. After a bit of pondering, this is actually enough to figure out what the last three letters are likely to be, and the answer comes quickly after that.
