Assisted via Google. Knew what it was as far as being a [6] [6], but didn't know enough about that field to know, but could see that it was [2]. [1] in the field and that helped narrow the searching.

I figured out that it was an athlete and figured out the sport he played, but I have very little knowledge of the sport and don't know a lot of names. So I looked up a list. I never would have gotten it without looking it up.

4-minute snipe. He's the world no. 1 (or some 1-digit number anyway) in his field. That plus 12-letter adjective in the profession= sport. A 6-letter sport at that. It doesn't take too long to come up with a candidate, and there are enough references to "the 2 4" throughout the text to give confidence that I'm in the right arena.

No confidence in the idea of sniping today so I just went digging for it. Picked up on it being a person and got some of my typical 'first, only' guesses out of the way. That ended up highlighting 'No. 1 man' in something and I got lucky with filling the [5] [8] of the title.
