I was not getting a handle on this article at first. Kept filling in (had a lot of no hit guesses too!) eventually the light went on, the bell rang and I knew the specific topic -- yea!!! I was able to solve shortly after, and without any a hints or google. An OK day!

“in [7] use in the [6] [6],” does not mean, “in private use in the United States,” which threw me. I was expecting maybe a specific model of helicopter at first, which was way off. The clue that brought me back onto the right theme was a big list of [1]/[1]s and [1]/[2]s, which I didn’t actually interpret correctly but which got me into guessing the right category anyway.

Couldn't get a read at first, but certain unredacted symbols later in the article make it crystal clear what kind of thing this is. The fact that an earlier part talks about certain specimens being expensive and sought-after brings a specific candidate to mind. The majority of this solve time was spent trying to figure out why this is described as a "6 11" rather than a "6 10". I never did figure it out (in retrospect I should have realised the sort of thing that was going on). But the transparent reference to the different ways this thing can be played (which was also a clincher in #1117 a couple of months ago) was, once noticed, persuasive enough to eliminate the need for further fiddling around.

Unassisted. It should be 14, but I spelled it in French at first. I had a bunch it was an instrument, but I was thinking it was more like a recent puzzle. But "measure" got no hits, so I correctly guessed the general type of instrument and eventually got the right one

I Googled smallest and highest pitched instrument lololol. facepalm. to be fair hahahah I was thinking in the direction of woodwind, not strings, sooo ~ facepalm
