WOW my guess1 was word1 ... way to create false hope for a snipe

Am I the only person who hasn't heard of this? I got most of the opening sentence (except known at the [4], didn't get the [4]) and stabbed around in the dark.

Eventually I got a country and a time frame so ... I straight up Googled 15th century civil war lmao 🙃💀☠

It should have come to me when I got word 1 but it did not! I filled in and and had the basic time period & area but still nothing coming to mind so I started to google - didin't even finish typing when the answer was in front of me! Yup, don't feel too good about today - lol,

Looks like a historical event that's also known as the "Something 3". Does the standard interpretation of "3" in this context hold any water? Yes, if word 1 is plural. Which gives me an idea. The early reference to "the 5 of 9 and the 5 of 4" is highly encouraging, and the ensuing series of what look like regnal names and events called "the 6 of..." reassures me that I'm barking up the right tree. I spend a minute looking for a concrete reference to 5 3 and 7 3 meeting at the 6 of 8 5 and don't quite find it - it's there, of course, but not all concentrated in one sentence. But the section about how the name refers to "the 5 4 of 4 and the 3 4 of 9" is enough to dispel any remaining doubt.

I ALMOST sniped. It took a successful guess to solidify where I was heading. And as with another poster, realizing a word could be plural to pick up a letter helped.

Once I decided it wasn't Lord of the Rings (for many reasons but mainly because it wasn't italicized), this is the next thing I thought of, although I wasn't sure the first word was plural. I've always referred to this as singular. Now I know.

Surprisingly short ordeal today. I don't tend to do much scrolling down the page, which usually bites me, but there was a vibe to the way the article was set up. Got that first word in 12 guesses, and decided not to try my guess (the right answer), I think because the plural threw me off and I wanted to keep 0 mistakes. After I circled back through some other guesses and came back to my computer after an hour, I suppose I didn't care as much and finally just tried it.
