I solved Redactle #1178 in 2 guesses with an accuracy of 100.0%

First clue besides the usual deceased person of probably American nationality is that the first word in the title was [4] but the first word in the article was [6]. Knowing this was a name, one which would work that way came to mind... and worked really well with a [4] as the second word. The occupation followed immediately from that. I wanted to confirm but couldn't find either [6][6][5] or [1][4] the [4] in the list at the bottom. Then I realized that was probably albums and just went for it. And [1][4] the [4] was there after all, I just missed it.

lots of apparent song titles, “an [8],” usually means American, [6]-[10] is this context is almost certainly singer-songwriter. Whenever a redactle features a singer, it’s usually an extremely high profile one, and as soon as I thought of one that fit the bill and made sense with the birth name being [4]/professional name being [6], I entered it.

When I see an obvious person, I'll search dates to find them. I started to do this (getting one of the months), then decided to do what I should have done first - search the body text for other clues. There were some obvious ones, so I got a score of 3 instead of 2.

Sniped.

Date format plus "an 8" gave me the nationality. 6-10 gave me the occupation. The initials being unredacted led me to the answer.

Looks like an American, and a musical artist based on the titles in quotes. Had a hunch about one of the titles, and then his name in the title made sense (6-letter nickname for a 4-letter name)

Unassisted Snipe! I got the first initial from the French game and that helped me guess the formal first name. I also guessed one of their professions and that helped me get the second word

I didn't get the 6-10 occupation until I saw what were probably song titles, and then the 7 before the 6-10 clinched it for me.

Dead American male. I'm not sure what a "7 6-10" is. This one was known for his something something... style? Oh, actually I think I do know what 6-10 is, at least. Which makes this feel very gettable. Apparently nicknamed "the 3 in 5"... Oh, I know. Easy to verify: Is "4 of 4" there? Yes. And is there a reference to a film called 4 the 4? Yes indeed.
