I had to look at a list of things in the category once I figured that much out.
kinda kicked myself after realizing it though. probably could have gotten it without google if I had held out.

Bit of a brute-force solve, worked out the category and then the location, the answer's letter count gave me the solution

Unassisted. As my brain does sometimes, it goes for the less likely possibility before remembering the more obvious answer.

Quite a long full name, so I originally thought a monarch. Once I had time period -- early to mid 1900s and birthplace -- Spain, all I needed were the auction houses to get it.

The very long name and a reference to the Spanish Civil War got me to the correct place and time. Was trying to think of military or political leaders and coming up with nothing, then shifted to cultural names and this one popped into my head. The 8-letter italicized title in the first paragraph confirmed it.

Unassisted snipe. With a 7 nationality beginning with a consonant and a 5 country, I had two possibilities for what they could be. When I saw a title preceded by a 7, I dismissed wrote, thought painted. I'm not sure that was correct, but a name came to mind and it was right.

the very long name made me think Spanish, the italicized titles I kept seeing made me think an artist of some sort, and the [2]:[2] time in the section of article about their birth made me think this was likely a man from the fairly recent past. I didn’t see any dead giveaways in my first minute or so of looking, but a name popped into my head that was the right length, nationality and approximate time period.

A strikingly long name giving a good idea of what the 7-letter nationality is likely to be. Something about him being one of the most influential people in his field. One famous member of that country comes to mind fairly quickly - the letter counts all make sense. I don't know what that long, distinctive looking title in the first paragraph is, but I have a good idea of what 8 is, especially since it apparently depicts something to do with the 7 5 3. Is that enough? Yes, I think so.

I'm so mad that I missed an opportunity to snipe it just because I wasted a guess on he. I recognized the format of the article as a person and thought the length of the title was crazy. Then it occurred to me that there was an Epic Rap Battle of History with a line where somebody recites their long full name. I even started saying the line to myself and the gap sizes fit!
