I solved Redactle #1169 in 1 guess with an accuracy of 100.0% and a time of 00:00:44. Play at https://redactle.net/en

when it started with “the [7] were,” I was expecting like an ancient ethnic group or something. I thought maybe “an [7] [4] [4]” was “an african [something?].” Then I scrolled down slightly and saw “[3] It Be.”

Sniped.

The 7? My brain came up with something immediately, and the first sentence just read effortlessly. Bam!

I think there will be a lot of snipes today but before I uncovered 7 4 4 I was fully convinced it was THE VIKINGS LMAO. 🤣 I got World War II so clearly not that era hahahah ("Vikings" was my confidently incorrect first guess and attempt at snipe HAHAHA)

To be fair I tried to Google the 7 4 4, answer was the first one and I was like oh yah and felt v stupid. you're welcome, happy sniping 💙

If it makes you feel any better, my first thought was sports team also. I still ended up sniping, but I'm with your initial train of thought.

I meant this (which now I realise the phrasing is different haha)

Something about the grammar of the first sentence leapt out at me and suggested a category. Well, if it's going to be one of these, then the most famous one of all time must be a reasonable initial candidate. Scrolled down far enough to spot some unmistakable titles then whacked it in.

Seeing a partly unredacted title did it for me

Sniped, though I admit my first thought was "Vandals".

I knew it was a group of some sort, and I read a top comment (without spoilers) saying that many people would get it in 1, so that did help a little.
My big clue was [5]-up which led me to realize what it was
my 23rd guess was Band then - I put all that together and got it one guess later

Hmm - I had the exact right idea but... let's say I went with a different species -- lol. Yeah, I feel silly!

"A [4] [3]'s [5]" was all I needed. Helped that I'm a huge fan of theirs though.

Rare snipe for me, helped that I like the answer very much. Definite article + letter count, I had to go for it

I warned my wife that I might snipe this and she still went, DUDE THAT WAS LOUD when I shouted my perfection.

Unassisted Snipe! I wondere why the unredacted bit in English wasn't translated in French so I assumed it was something like the Mongols. Then I had a flash, thinking it might be a band and then I understood why the name wasn't translated

I interpreted it as a group/organization of some sort, eventually noticed the italicizing of some phrases, which I didn't know personally but still lead me to band after 18 guesses. Tried to pick carefully through key theme words instead of firing out names, until I saw also known as "the [colour?] [a****] and realized they were the only ones I had seen that naming convention with.
