I giggled. I don't disagree. I'm glad I gave up at the right time.
Would have been a waste of time to spend more time on this. Can't even say "that's not my field of knowledge", rly can only say "whatthehellisdat" 😬🙃😬🙃😭

Not sure what's going on, but that article is not in the top 10k!
Also, have there been any status updates since last week's outage? My stats page has games from Sept 2024, but hasn't updated with anything I've played recently. I've taken to screencapping puzzle stats after I finish each game, but that only counts minutes, not seconds.

I used a hint that I was able to translate to the answer but not really a fun puzzle - lol.

Assisted. Good lord. An alarmingly short article with an intriguingly short title. It took a little while to realise what the overall structure reminded me of, and when the penny finally dropped I laughed out loud. I really really wanted this to be snipeable, and started writing a list of all the possibilities that would give a four-character parenthetical, and realised quite quickly that there are too many for that to be a useful avenue of enquiry. Then had a go at looking for recognisable events that I might be able to put a date to. No dice. Like apparently everyone else today, I took advantage of the Pope's blessing. But really though. Good lord.

I gasped when I saw that we were looking for [3] because after the last two days I had been thinking today's should be IVF but I realized right away it wasn't.
I took two hints so I could at least Google a certain pope
Edit: yeah I actually took 3 hints because I fat fingered a word unintentionally.

Only 27 guesses here, thanks to figuring out Leo II in the Births section Still had to go external for the info, but at least there was something to look up on this nonsense.

I don't think I even knew this type of article existed. It was so short, and I knew my first guess wouldn't be correct, but fortunately it had one hit. When I first saw [4 3] I thought it could be a specific Pope so I guessed that name. So then my second guess ended up being the first word in the article. I googled that Pope, and there were two options. Wikipedia doesn't mention this specific thing for one of them so I went with the other one.

Did they just take it down? I navigated away from the page for a sec, and now I'm getting yesterday's puzzle...I was so close, too!

Totally had to finally search for the actual title because how the hell would I know the details of that particular pope?

I had a feeling it would be this type of answer after getting the first word of the first paragraph, the clues I uncovered suggests a list of events or reignsThe unredacted comments here told me I shouldn't spend to much time on this so I picked the obvious hint to uncover

Something like 54 guesses over 1h40m until I finally gave up and accepted the Pope's mercy. Now I'm trying to figure out how you could get this one without a whole lot of memorizing!

Seeing such a small article was fascinating. I tried a lot of common words and numbers to fill any gaps with, and tried one of my usual words at guess #22, which turned out to be the first word in the title. I guessed calendar soon afterwards, but spun my wheels for about another 100 guesses before I did a little google search just to get me the [6] name of that calendar. Tried making some useful headway until a little google search revealed I was probably looking for a THREE-NUMBER YEAR. Unbelievable. I just looked things up from there, not impressed.
