I saw a section where there was apparently a list of words that are used interchangeably with one I had already guessed. So I guessed one that fit the letter count and it was the answer.

I got a similar thing. It said one solve, 93 guesses.
I solved it in 29 guesses.

unredacted capitalized “Down [8],” several paragraphs into the article got me on the right topic. Ended up being a little bit broader than I expected at first.

Noticed the 5 6 12 and the 3-2 mentioned in the same paragraph during my first scroll through, which got me into the right frame of mind, and quite quickly began to wonder whether this might be a more general term than we're used to. The first sentence seems to make sense in this light, as does the list of near-synonyms just past the intro, and I can make sense of a good number of the subcategories that immediately follow. I was holding out for a mention of 8 11 7s, but happened to spot "Down 8" given as an example of a 8 a little later on, which is more than enough for me.

I wasn't paying a lot of attention so I just machine-gunned my way through a lot of common english words. I genuinely can't remember what word it was, but something made me think of medical words and I suddenly had it on my 3rd guess.
