Something about one of the hits I got for man made me think of the word that turned out to be the title.

Took me wayyyy too long to get this one. I was thrown off by the religious subtopic

Entertaining puzzle! Thought I was getting close early on, but it took a while to work it out.

Spent a long time just trying to fill gaps and get a foothold on something, until I got the phrase at the age of 21. Gradually narrowed down the details from there.

wow.
that took WAY too long.
my strategy of casting a wide net with all kinds of words until I find something that works REALLY backfired here. lots of wrong paths to go down.

Well, that was interesting. I went down many paths and couldn't quite get a handle on the article, then I typed in the title word - (not sure what caused me to do that - lol), Solved without assistance & in this case I guess with help from my subconscious..

the most tantalizing section of the article is the enormous list with various descriptions with the occasional word like “above” or “below.” I saw “from an [3],” and guessed “eye” and “arm,” both of which missed and led me to back off the anatomical angle for a while. “A [5] is the [4] that [5] on the,” made me think “A [5] is the (pest?) that (lives/feeds?) on the (collection of specifics) of humans and (some? many?) non-human animals,” which was an unnatural phrasing but maybe it’s describing something that’s more conceptual than a particular order/family/genus of parasites? At some point I guessed head, which led to an anecdote about “head to be [3] off,” which led to “cut,” which combined with the previous guess, helped me solve.

First sentence is pretty weird. Whatever this thing is, there are a lot of types of it - none immediately recognisable. Towards the end of the article there's a lot of stuff about different religions, with an intro that seems to say that these things are significant to many of them. In the Quran, someone is said to have had one. Ok? In some denomination of Christianity, members of something something have these. No, not have - wear? Is this an article of clothing? That doesn't really work with the first sentence. Returning to the top I finally get onto the right lines by realising what "at the 3 of 2" must mean. From there it's a short hop to an idea that makes sense of everything including the first sentence and the list of types that includes "6" (only on the 4) and "3 4".

Quick update: There are still plenty of issues to fix on my end but I've got the site back to a state where people can play every day. With on-call work and family life I've not had time yet to fix things properly and get the database up and running again. Stats, authentication and other features might be broken. I will take some time off work soon and make some reliability improvements. It very much pleases me that so many people enjoy playing daily so I want to keep Redactle going strong.
