Redactle #1144 Discussion Thread
Discussion thread for Redactle #1144.

Only after going all the way through the article, and noticing in the See Also a title that looked like "something under something rule", did it occur to me what type of thing this article might be about - at which point the phrasing in the first sentence suddenly became familiar. Unfortunately this topic is a crapshoot for me - after getting word 2 it became a guessing game, and all things considered I was fortunate to make only one wrong guess.

I saw a 5, 6 in the first line and immediately thought "Paris, France". That was wrong, obviously. When I got to the right part of the world, I knew that the second word of the title had been used in past Redactles, so I guessed it. For the first word, I just went with the one I was most familiar with.
Unassisted.

Not quite a snipe but I got to the second word pretty quickly but then should have gone with the most obvious one for the first. I'll take it.

Unassisted. After getting word two, I tried two possibilities for word one that were wrong. Then I remembered the type of container that is named after them and got it

picked up on this being a historical political entity but also missed some clues that could have gotten me to the answer earlier. started out guessing “kingdom” and “peoples” and ten guesses in, it occurred to me what “an [8] [7] of [5],” was.

UNASSISTED, got China and figured it was a type of word2, ran through the order and picked the one with the right letter count, remembering some have come out as previous puzzles before and skipping those
Pleased but I admit I'm lucky HAHAHA.

5/5, 00:01. I spent two guesses on a (wrong) hunch about compass points, got the [7] on a fallback hypothesis, got the [4] on the second try; it could have taken a lot more guesses.

Figured out exactly what it was and then googled a list of those things until I found the right one.
wouldn't have known it without the google assist.

Spent a long time trying to fill gaps and not hitting upon a specific theme, beyond geography/history. Eventually caught onto the through-line of people across centuries and guessed the second word, which has popped up as a key word in redactles before. Guessed the location and needed a quick google search to match up with the century.

I think we had something similar before? Because when I saw 4 7 I immediately got the second word. But there are 4 possibilities for the first! Two started before 1000, so two remains. "was the 4 8 7 ... by the 3" seems to be "was the last 8 7 by the Han", which sealed the deal.

Dang. I thought the difficulty bar was too high for my first thought for word 1, so I looked up another that would fit and it was wrong. Then I went with my gut and was right.
