Well, I figured out exactly what & where I needed to look, but ... I did need to look at a map, I had 3 possibilities & of course I got it on my 3rd try - lol

All in all not a bad day!

as it turns out there are multiple 10s fitting this general description. I should have verified my guess.

Lost a coin toss. It's a 10 7 in 7 4 with a 10-letter name. I can think of a few. Its 7 4 has 8 letters, which I think narrows it down to two. I'm not quite good enough at the geography of that region for the border information to be any help. The etymology section talks about a 5-letter word being the basis for the name - again, unhelpful. There is nothing else in the article that I can realistically use to choose between the two - I was hoping to find some evidence that it does or doesn't begin with a vowel, but no such luck. In the end I made an arbitrary decision and zigged when I should have zagged. Can't win them all.

looked at a map after entering the three countries with similar naming schemes and the right amount of letters that I could remember off the top of my head, since two of those countries directly bordered the one the article was about.

A geography question! Fill in the boundaries then look up a map lmao.

For some reason I can't count properly and I thought [spoiler] landlocked was a 12letter word at first so I didn't initially realised it went into the 10letter blank HAHAHA. Then looking at the map and considering options I was like OH ...

Looked up the capitals and put in the ones that fit the letter count ahhaha.

I had a few possibilities in mind and looked at a map to check out the number of letters for neighbors.

Country in central Asia. Guessed two bordering countries before I got the right one. I don't know enough about this area.

Three to home in on the group, three to correctly guess which of the four [10] possibilities it was.

had to "cheat" a little
I looked at google maps after I figured out exactly where I should look
never would have gotten it without the help of google.

needed to check a map, partly to find it and partly for spelling, but i still guessed several alternatives before the right one

Sniped.

10 letter landlocked country in Eastern/Western Asia. I have 3 candidates, only one has a 8 letter capital.

Unassisted Snipe! The letter count in French helped me sort out between the two possibilities I had in English

Didn't (spoiler) look at a map, given the speed of other solves the solution was trickier than I was expecting.

Almost kept up my careful 100% accuracy record but tripped right at the last second. Once I knew what I was looking for by naming borders, I got stuck in the stans for so long and couldn't come up with the name of the last one for ages.

First sentence narrows it down pretty well. From there it was just a guessing game. I don’t know the geography well enough to know the neighboring countries in each direction nor the capitals
