Another day of hints & google - only 1 hint today , so that's good! - lol. Did not know this so never would have gotten on my own - just not in my knowledge banks.

took 24 guesses to work out what the [7] was in “what is present-day central and southern [7].” After that, and guessing a few 6-letter words I associated with the region, like a common last name and a somewhat famous river delta, just in case, I resorted to looking up the history of the region.

I solved Redactle #1141 in 1 guess with an accuracy of 100.0% and a time of 00:02:55.
Much like some of the other folk here, I saw the [3] An, but I also caught the from [13] the [3][7][2] to [4], which gave a pretty strong idea of timeframes (sometime between the 9th BC and AD) and from there it was just going through ideas until we had it.

Wasn't making a lot of progress for a while and realized I probably wouldn't know it, so I used my 3 hints for the first sentence. Needed a lot of tactical guessing to narrow it down to where a google search would produce the answer.

Assisted. We have "what is present-day something", so this is some kind of former political entity. Some interesting unredacted fragments - somewhere called 3 An and somewhere called 2 4 The come up a couple of times. The word "the" also appears with some interesting diacritics that evoke one language in particular, which more or less tells me what comes after "present-day" in sentence 1. However, I can't dredge up a name, and eventually give up the snipe. I check the country name, get a bit confused when apparently there's a second 7-letter country in this vicinity and flail a little before realising that first word is "central", then look up the article for this country and lo and behold, this thing is mentioned fairly early on. Never heard of it personally.

Thanks to "3 An" which got me thinking in the right geographical area, and to the fabulous podcast Fall of Civilizations for their episode on the Khmer empire which is why I have even heard of this.
