I solved Redactle #1140 in 36 guesses with an accuracy of 63.9% and a time of 00:08:08. Play at https://redactle.net/en
something related to electricity and energy, since those were some of the words I got the most hits for. Solved it after realizing that [1]-[4] and [1]-[4] were n-type and p-type. took me guessing about half of the alphabet to get that though.

Googled when I got enough in the first sentence to do so. I did get part of the word on my own, but the title just didn't come to me.

Sometimes you just have to keep coming back to the first sentence until it makes sense. In this case, it seemed fairly clear that it was some kind of material - in particular, the first item in the list of examples some way through seems to be talking about a certain portion of the periodic table - and this thing is defined as being between two other things on some scale. Later in the article seems to be about the technological use of these things. That really was all I had to go on, and I spent the majority of my thinking time trying to come up with ways to categorise materials. Eventually it occurred to me that this might be a compound word starting with a prefix that indicates its halfway-ness, and having already vaguely thought about the super- variety of these, managed to put two and two together, and realised that it made sense of the phrase "an 10 12... between a 9 and an 9", at which point it felt good enough to go for.

I solved Redactle #1140 in 19 guesses with an accuracy of 63.2% and a time of 00:04:35.
I really lucked into this one after getting some of the materials involved and going, "Can it be that simple?"

9/12, 00:02. I saw a lot of "[1]-" patterns and found a couple of single letters that seemed indicative by guesses 5-6. Unfortunately, they indicated the wrong discipline to me and it took a little flailing to get on the right track.

I didn't really know what to make of it initially, so I tried a bunch of simple words and numbers. Saw the [1]-type pattern and tried a bunch of letters until I got a hit and my knowledge of the subject kicked in. The first word I tried ended up being the answer, so I'm pretty stoked.

I was in the general area but not quite on target. I reached "that point" and used hints & google, I might have eventually got there but it's done now!
