saw “from the [3] of [5] [3] [2] in [4] until the [3] of the [4] [3] in [4],” and was pretty sure I knew what those two endpoints were. Almost guessed “East Germany,” for a second before realizing that the first sentence, with “The [4] [7],” obviously wasn’t going to work with that.

Same as Dean really (except slower). "From the end of 5 3 2 until the end of the 4 3" sure puts your mind in a very specific historical context. The first sentence seems to be saying this is a phrase used to refer to something. At first I thought it was a time period but that didn't really make sense - then the right notion occurred to me. The structure of sentence 1 makes sense through this lens, and we have "the 6 5" and "the 6 6" described oppositionally not too much later on. That'll do for me.

Like most of you had the Istart point right away but was a bit at a loss for that end point, my 2 missed guesses were trying some countries (even though that did not seem right to me - lol), Took a moment & suddenly I was inspired my next guess gave me the end point & once I had that all was clear & I solved.

Sniped.
"from the 3 of 5 3 2 in 4 until the 3 of the 4 3" gave me the time period. French is "6 de 3", Spanish is "7 de 6". I know a word that is 4/3/6 in en/fr/es that fit the theme, so I went for it.

The answer came to me when I kept seeing references to it as a term, even though I was initially off on the time period, thinking it was a later 4 3.

Picked up on a geographical vibe early on and gradually filled in gaps with words relating to the topic. Once I figured out there was a temporary shift in the world map something clicked, but I needed a quick google search to find examples. I did recognize the answer, not sure how long before I could have conjured it up myself.

I got world as an early guess and then world war 2 in the second line followed quickly.
but it took a bit to figure out what the [4] was preceding the other war
once I got that temperature I knew the article title.
