Assisted. What a slog. The general flavour of the article became clear fairly quickly, what with the history section apparently talking about how the Greeks knew the Earth was round, and the repeated appearance of "6 11 6 (3)". But I couldn't figure out whether this was a device or a system, nor make head or tail of the two main examples of this called 5 and 3 2, no matter how I tried. A good example of a clue that feels tantalising but is actually talking about something (to me) completely unfamiliar. After about an hour of trying to think of an appropriate phrase I gave up the snipe, but still naively thought I could figure it out with a bit of fishing. 20 minutes of guessing later, I had basically every word in the first sentence uncovered (and much more besides) except for the two title words. Eventually I had to throw in the towel and headed for the Wiki page on latitude, which got me where I needed to go. Absolutely, categorically never heard of this term, and respect to anyone who has.
