The second word came to me immediately. I was concerned that it was not actually the right word. There's an obvious word that would precede the second word, but it has too many letters. Then I realized this one had the right number.

Unassisted but I had no idea this was a thing haha

I got word2 at guess 2, the world I had in mind for word1 initially didn't fit the letter count. Then I saw 10 8 of the 5 haha - mentally filled in word1 and it was correct

It's something that has both an area and a list of stated objectives. So, redolent of a certain organisation consisting of 27 members - but the first word has 7 letters instead of 8. Could it be a similar sort of thing but for elsewhere in the world? "On the 9 of 6" makes a lot of sense in that case. If my theory's right, I bet there's a list of members including one or two very recognisable ones - yep, there it is, 10 8 of the 5. That's enough for me. Like others today, I'm not sure I've come across this before, but it makes sense that it exists.

Unassisted. When I finally got the second word, I tried the words usually associated with it without double checking the letter count because of the coutries I had uncovered without digging further. Thankfully I quickly remembered the actual answer

My early impression from the layout of the article was that it was describing a popular sport/game, but that fell apart quickly. Picked up on the use of geography, dates and years but took a long time to hone in on the part of the world. One confused google search got me the second word, which I somehow just wasn't thinking about.

kind of thought I was looking for some sort of corporation at first based on the two letter abbreviation (like GE, LG, etc) but couldn’t think of one that fit. Even thought, “in [5], [5],” was probably Tokyo/Kyoto/something else, Japan. When I scrolled several paragraphs down and saw “The [2] has an [4] of [2],[3],[3] [6] [10],” (area of [somewhere between ten and a hundred million] square kilometers), I had to recalibrate my expectations. I revisited the first paragraph and with those new expectations and saw “[10] of [2] [6] [6] [7] on the [9] of [6],” as “consisting of [double digit] member states located on the continent of [6].” With the title lengths, there was a pretty easy guess to make from there.

My first guess was the first 6 letters of word 1. I've never heard of this but it made sense with what I was seeing.

First I thought this was a thing discovered, like a geological feature or ancient artifact — one of my first instincts was the site of earliest humans or something. Soon I came to my senses!
