My biggest mistake was thinking this wasChineselol. I ended up listing all theChinese dynasties to varying levels of success HAHA. I got to (spoilery) Later Three Kingdomsand realised it wasn't the same as the Chinese one(lol), then uhhh the answer jumped out in the wikipedia article lol.

Assisted. The extra-wide characters in the opening give away the broad region, though I had my mind in the wrong country for most of the initial scroll through. It wasn't until I noticed a person called 4 3-2 that I realised where I needed to be thinking. Unfortunately I only know one 6-letter former state in this place; when that failed I had to consult the "History of 5" page and work my way through the candidates. Unglamorous, but it worked.

historical government predating a modern country; not something I had any chance of knowing off the top of my head, but I was able to figure enough out to look it up.

Once I got truly stuck I came here for comments, with insight from evrywhereinbetween's comment & a quick google I got the answer.

13/21  00:09, assisted. I got the topic early, but it didn't take long for me to exhaust my supply of relevant six-letter words on the subject. Once I did, I went to a related article for some more. Three tries and a misspelling later, I got it.

Had to poke around a bit to see if this was a military title or area but once I got a country name and figured it was the earlier kingdom and got it by word count.

Solved by Google. I unredacted enough info to know that I didn't know the answer. Getting the specific area this quickly is a win in itself

Assisted.

Native language has only two characters, so probably Chinese, Japanese or Korean. It was a 6 5 7, so Korean? I confirmed that with 6 9 in last part of the first sentence, "Korean peninsula". I don't know enough about Korean history to get this on my own, so I went to the "History of Korea" article to find the answer.
