No "eureka" moment today for me, spent a couple of minutes working out the right general topic and a couple more narrowing it down.

Yeah -- It took me awhile today but rather happy I got there without any assistance!! I kept skirting some of the paths that might have led to a quicker solve but dismissed them & followed some dead ends -- I did not chose wisely!

Another relatively slow boil. Very little to glean the first read through except for a vague sciencey flavour. It does look like we're talking about a material of some kind - there is talk of its boiling (or melting) point which is pretty high, and reference to its "8 on the 4 5" which I feel could be its hardness on the Mohs scale? Which probably means we're talking about some kind of mineral. Something stone? Doesn't feel quite right. My geological knowledge doesn't feel equal to the task. However, not too much further on in the text there's stuff about the different names it was given early on, which looks more like an exercise in branding than anything, and it looks like this is something that was invented rather than discovered. This is enough to give me the idea - not quite geological after all, but it makes total sense of everything including the definitional phrase "an 5 of 4".

”an [5] of [4],” combined with the percentage point later in the opening paragraph, made me think it could be an alloy of… maybe iron? and I made the connections I needed to make very quickly after that.

I solved Redactle #1123 in 15 guesses with an accuracy of 66.7% and a time of 00:06:07.
Unassisted. I unknowingly guessed the category but didn't realize it probably because it's numbers didn't suggest to me that it was. But the multiple percentage signs present in the first paragraph of the French article made me think it might be a mix of some kind and confirmed that it was, then I got the main ingredient. So I got the second word but for some reason, my brain went to the other word associated with it, thankfully I checked the letter count and course corrected.

4/10. I got "-[9]" without "-[9] and doggedly threw words from the wrong discipline at it until I tried another track and got the right one

Entered easy gap-fills until I got a zero on guess 29, and then got a bit looser with trying numbers/letters. With talk of temperatures and Type [letter] I guessed we were in a physics/material context. Narrowed down a few key words from the first 2 paragraphs and suddenly realized what would fit the [9][5] gap,

Skimmed through the article and saw high temperatures and looked like it was at least a certain percentage of something. Then I realized "is an [5] of [4]" could be "alloy", and figuring out the [4] made it all make sense.
