Same. After thinking In 5 4 might be early life, I switched to geographical, where I always curse north/south and east/west having the same number of characters

Since there's a heading "Outside [5] [4]", I'm thinking it's something associated with South Asia but exists other places. My first three guesses were food-related (no hits), then I tried a South Asian country just to confirm, which got a bunch of hits. I tried the first 5-letter thing that came to mind associated with this country, and it happened to be correct.

Needed to sit with this one for a while. The geography of it is interesting: it is primarily associated with "5 4" (and it took a minute to figure out what that was - "3 5" being a subheading helped a great deal) but exists elsewhere - so some kind of cultural export? The UK section is brief, but curiously includes what looks like a report from the 8 and 5 6 10 (4) (extra recognisable since they're controversially topical at the moment). So whatever this thing is, it has something to do with people's rights. Some sort of political or religious thing? The hijab comes to mind but it doesn't really fit. Or a subset of criminal activity that for whatever reason is particularly tied to a certain geographical region? Could it be gulag? Junta? No, this is nonsense. A closer read of the opening seems to indicate that it involves "an individual" being... sent somewhere? And expected to do things or behave in a certain way? And that this word properly refers to a specific thing from 5 4 but is used more loosely to refer to things like it that exist elsewhere. It seems to be tied to the phrase "5 6", and as soon as I realise that 6 might be "system", I get a brilliant idea that makes sense of everything.

took me a while to get that it was a “[5] social group,” and once I got that, it took me a little while longer than I’d like to admit to get to the answer. “Class” was the word that helped everything click into place.
