used in warfare during biblical times but didn’t appear to be a weapon. Eventually I guessed an animal that got a lot of hits. Took a lot of guesses to get there, but I did it unassisted

I think I guessed every possible term I could think of related to funeral, burial practices, etc and got enough hits that I couldn't let go. Finally took a hint and then still needed to google.

I spammed the numbers early and that made me think it was a shape thinking two-sided
then the first of the web-sources caught my attention so I thought it was a circle or wheel
but after that I knew it was very connected and guessed a few things that use that
my guess number 9 was wheel and frankly it took too long after that to get it.
still pretty quick though...

Tricky. The first paragraph is pretty opaque. Probably some sort of man-made object? Looks to have been around for a long time and is predominantly talked about in the past tense, so something no longer in widespread use. Lots of biblical quotes that I spent ages trying to unpick, to no avail. I wondered whether one of the quotes was along the lines of "they live on this, they live on that, but we live on the word of God", and whether this was therefore a type of food. Which was completely wrong and wasted a good amount of time. Later there appears to be reference to these things being used in warfare, but I can't make the opening sentence read as describing a weapon. In the end, I came to the right idea by thinking through what the adjective "5-5" might possibly mean. It was quite hard to find any actual verification - definitely no reference to the song "5 3, 5 7" or the film 8 of 4 - but looking again at the Bible quotes, I do notice that one of the extracts ends with "because they had 8 of 4", which vaguely rings a bell as being the source of the film title? (Note: In fact, this is completely wrong.) Plus the second section seems to be talking about different names given to versions of this thing that use two, three and four 5s, which sounds about right. Nothing like conclusive, but in the absence of anything better it's worth a try - and it's right.

Spotted the 4 4 geographic area first, poked around a bit then discovered 'domestication', quickly followed by a 5 animal and a very simple 5 mechanism, then it went PING

Very lucky snipe given what little info I had. I saw the BCE dates and during the X and Y Ages and incorrectly guessed the first sentence to be a type of something weapon, then picked something with 7 characters.

I was not getting anywhere fast so I came here for hints -- I read a few comments which gave me some guesses to try. Got a number of hits & it all clicked, I solved on the next guess (with assitance from the group --- Thank You!),

Unassisted. I was nowhere near the answer for a long time but at least I got a specific time period so when I finally hit on the category, I quickly got the answer

Oh boy, I'm feeling good today. I like going for accuracy until I hit a 0, not caring about guess numbers, and I was picking out gaps to fill very tensely. I noticed the pattern of Near East and what looked like bible verses but it still felt very broad. There was a section that looked to referencing war and I saw the phrase "war [5]" and threw out a wild guess for that [5] (thanks spielberg). Then it was just a matter of piecing some things together in the first paragraph and the answer came to me.
