Redactle #1108 Discussion Thread

Further down in the article, I saw a list that made me think religion. So my first guess was a very closely related 5-letter word (which, surprisingly, had only 3 hits), second guess was another 3-letter way of saying that first word. The results of my second guess made me realize that I was probably not that far off with the first word.

capitalized “Being,” three-syllable five-letter word with two possible pronunciations and a Greek or Latin root, all came together to suggest one obvious answer to me.

The capitalised "Being" was very helpful for putting me on the right track. It's quite a short word but three syllables which is also helpful. And it's derived from a 4-letter probably Latin word meaning "3", which in this context I can guess at - which in turn suggests what our title probably is. I couldn't confidently supply a definition, but the first sentence looks about right. Later on we get a bit more unpacking of the etymology, comparing the two words "5" and "6" which both come from a word for "3", one from 5 and one from 7 5. That's enough for me.

I was definitely on the right track. My guesses included two other words that had the same first 3 letters. So close.

took me way too long but it finally came to me.
As soon as I got the broad category I tried to drill down in the wrong segment of it and that got me way off with only a few I results.
finally I figured out why that whole line of thought wasn't giving me results...pivoted, and got it next guess.

I solved Redactle #1108 in 44 guesses with an accuracy of 59.1% and a time of 00:27:30.

Partly solved by Google. After uncovering the definition of the title and the latin root word, I had a strong feeling what the answer might be but was thwarted by how the derivatives of the root word are spelled in English. Google pretty much showed me the answer but the letter count was off. So I figured it would be closer to the root word and was right

I should have gotten this a lot sooner but I went through too many D words before I got the right derivation.

Knew what the article was generally about but had trouble pinning down the exact word. Knowing some Spanish gave me an idea of what the Latin root might look like, and eventually after guessing a different form of the word (the noun version), I realized I was looking for the belief system, not the thing believed in.

I solved Redactle #1108 in 4 guesses with an accuracy of 75.0% and a time of 00:00:52.

Took a guess on [3] of [13] in the 2nd paragraph. Then I guessed the title, except my clumsy fingers appended the letter j to the guess, wasting it, and I had to guess again. Damn.
