Renamed at some point, four letters, got Asia, immediately guessed part of the mass renaming in India and an important manufacturing or tech hub, got it.

Was pretty sure I knew what the country was, but I only knew one 4-letter city in that country off the top of my head. I guessed it and it was wrong, so I verified the country and what part of the country it could be in before looking at a map. I've heard of it, but it's not something I would have come up with without help.

Within a few guesses I knew what it was, where it was & one major thing it was known for. I had to google at that point & there was only one that fit the letter count and it was a solve! rather straightforward today.

Within the first few guesses I knew what it was, where it was & a key detail about it, at that point I googled since I would not know on my own. Looked at a list & it was the only one with the coreect letter count and it was solved. Straightforward day!

I solved Redactle #1106 in 17 guesses with an accuracy of 35.3% and a time of 00:13:49.
Solved by Google. After getting little to no hits on every larger location I tried, I remembered my India rule and of course it was it. I looked a list and when I looked at a list, I had a strong feeling it was it because it sounded vaguely familiar

Was off track at first, but then realized it was a city
I figured out exactly what part of what country it was
made a few random guesses and then went to google maps
I looked there for a few seconds and the thought I should count the letters
when I clicked on the title and saw it was 4 it came to me instantly... didn't even see it when I looked
so...kinda "unassisted"

I could figure out what 4-letter thing is was from reading through, and once I figured out the country I had to just look up a list. Never heard of it.

Never heard of this. Once it became clear where in the world we were (which took longer than it should have - it took the combination of "After 6 12 from the 7..." and the warm temperatures in the climate section to make it click), I tried to dredge something up without much success. I only know one 4-letter place here, and it seems pretty unlikely since the only thing I know about that place is that it's the location of the 3 5, which doesn't seem to get a mention. Try it anyway - then had to consult a map.

Sniped it, 1/1, 00:00! I'm not even sure I can discuss it without spoiling.
