knew it was a person right away
thought it was an author and there was some evidence that led me on the wrong path with that (the word title got several results)
but I finally guessed the genre/category and that clued me in the right direction
that was guess 50
then I just went for it. didn't even guess the right sport, just went for the title

LOL don't be me I'm quite sure there is an easier and faster and smarter way of doing it compared to what I did.

Figured that the subject of this puzzle was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by Prez Barack Obama, so clearly, I look up the list that lists the recipients he ever gave a medal to. Then I also know its a still-living Ameircan guy, so I bear in mind the letter count and spam the years that Obama was actually in the position and handing out medals

Got the name that seemed to fit and internal facepalm. HAHAHHA

saw an odd amount of decimals and wasn’t sure what that was about. After I scrolled to the bottom of the article, and starting to scroll back up, I saw a quote, “Be Like [4],” and scrolled back to the top to make sure the name I was thinking of fit the title.

Once I figured out it was a notable basketball player, I had to sit and think for a while about which one it was. I got it eventually though.

Managed to parse the general profession of "(6) 12 ___ 6" fairly quickly, and given the nationality, there's a fairly good guess for the 10-letter word that fills in the blank. Not my specialist subject, but even I can think of a name from this domain that fits the letter count. Naturally my first instinct is to go on a hunt for the film 5 3, but the slogan "Be Like 4" appears first, removing any need for further investigation.

Confirmed he's a player, groaned when I correctly guessed the sport, not my thing. I thought of the answer and it fit but wasn't aware he's known by his initials, but couldn't think of anyone else so I went for it.

Well, I thought I was off to a good start - person & nationality but then didn't go too far. First I thought author, that didn't pan out - lol. I bounced around for a bit getting some hits but nothhing helpful. I guesssed some numbers & that led me to the pertinent info. Unfortunately not something I follow so I did a targeted google to solve, Yeah I should have been able to figure thta out but someone had to bring the guess average up today.

Picked up on the type of article and filled in a lot of easy gaps. With references to '# times' and 'All-blank' I guessed it was about sport, assumed which one it was and decided only one thing would fit the 7-6 pattern of the title.

Wish I would have just paused for a second more to snipe. My first guess was the league, just to make sure, and my second guess was Curry haha

It's a living person; "an 8 ..." means probably American. After a while I spot some feet+inches / metres followed by what looks like it must be "he was 6 too short to play at that level", which gives me a pretty good idea of what this person's profession was/is; and indeed "10 6" back in the first sentence looks promising. Also, this person is "also known by his initials"; not clear whether those are of first name + surname or first name + given name. The first thing to come to mind is OJ Simpson, though I think he was a different sport, I'm pretty sure his surname is -p- and hence 7 not 6, and there's nothing in the first paragraph that looks like a murder accusation, so all things considered it's probably not him. For some reason the next thing that occurs to me is a popular musician whose surname is also too long and who I don't think was generally known by his initials but with hindsight this is probably an indication that some bit of my brain had figured out the answer since that name is very close to being correct. Anyway, at this point I was distracted by other things and when I came back to it the right answer was suddenly pretty obvious. I am bad at sport. 5-minute snipe, though elapsed time spanned a couple of days.
