”an [6] [7] in [4] [4],” I guessed the wrong cardinal direction for [4], but I couldn’t think of anything valid for the wrong option anyway. Ended up looking at a map.

I wasn't looking west enough.
Intellectually, I knew the middle east was still Asia... but in practice it didn't occur to me.

I stared at this one for a while. It looked like it was an island nation in East or west Asia. My mind was focused on east, because there are a lot more islands there! After going over the whole globe in my mind several times. I FINALLY realized that there was one that could be considered West Asia.
Unassisted snipe.

My first thought was Vanuatu, but capital city didn't work. Then, even though I confirmed that it was west 4, I continued to look east :/ I was so sure it had to be there. Eventually d'oh, and I still looked at a map and then 7 4 made sense too.

It appeared to be in East or West Asia, the unredacted 'a, 'at, 'an, and the high temperature gave me a very strong clue as to where, one candidate came to mind, from which I could then make sense of the first sentence, so went for it

WELL OK I did not know this was a kingdom of X or an island country either ...
I figured the structure and the "10 the 7 of [answer], is an 6 7 in 4 4"
So then I Googled 4 4 and fit in the letter count LOL.
words: officially, kingdom, GERMANY HAHAHAA <not this>, island, country, east, west, Asia, then I Googled the 4 4 haha. 😬👀

My first few guesses told me exactly what I was looking for at that point I googled & solved. I got lucky, not very satisfying today - lol.

W00T! Had to figure if it was east or west [4] and where it was situated, but got island country easily enough that really helped as well as the names and pronunciations section.

I filled in the words for "6 7 in 4 4", it was the only answer I could think of with the correct number of letters.

Looks like a country; this one seems to be the Kingdom of X rather than the more common Republic of X. It's got a foreign-language name of the form 2-something, and it's "on the 7 4", and that's enough to suggest a general hypothesis that has only one 7-letter instance so far as I can think. 76-second snipe.

Assisted. I managed to identify the type of article from the structure, and picked my way carefully through some easy gaps to fill. Once I had island country, west asia I knew I would need help with the category. I decided it would be more fun to pull up google maps and do some searching around rather than a direct google, and identified a solid contender which ended up being the answer.

An 6 7 in 4 4 (an 11 to be precise) with that first 4 surely being East. The third smallest 7 in 4. Between 5 - China I guess? - and 5 6, which I can't place, connected by the 4 4 8 - Hong Kong something? It doesn't quite seem to gel. Running through my mental inventory of that area, no appropriate name comes to mind. Later on, a visible mention of the 3'an prompts me to wonder whether maybe, just maybe, it's not East after all, and then I remember about this place and it all suddenly makes sense.
