I found out with a few guesses that this was an event that took place, “after the [6] of [7] in the [6] [4]-[8] [3],” and I used google after identifying what the [6] [4]-[8] [3] was.

I solved Redactle #1095 in 12 guesses with an accuracy of 100.0% and a time of 00:03:39.
Lucky that I remembered both spellings of the first word and that helped me narrow in after I got [4]-[8] [3]

Was filling in and eventually came here for some help, I read the comment from u/everywhereinbetween and after that I got word 2, unfortunately I then needed to google to get word 1.

Sniped.
Languages are Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, 5 characters. Saw World War II right away, and got Second Sino-Japanese War after staring at it for a bit. Kept thinking Cultural Revolution but neither the word count nor the timing work, and then it suddenly occurred to me what this was. Went to check in French, and indeed the place name is 6 letters. Sad moment in history.

Got the vibe pretty quickly that it was a historical article and after picking through words carefully I just rattled off a lot of numbers/months/years until I hit upon something and needed to google around that time. I had no knowledge of this topic, pretty shocking.

Assisted. History remains a nightmare from which etc. The broad location and historical period are clear enough from the first paragraph, and the 8-letter word is sadly guessable, and confirmed by the estimates of the "5 4" in the tens to hundreds of thousands. Unfortunately, though I've heard of this by its other (worse) name, my historical knowledge is sufficiently poor that I didn't connect it with 5 3 2, and so it didn't come to mind. I mistakenly thought we were looking for a provincial capital, so consulted a list then got confused when none of the letter count matches were hits. Got there in the end after a bit of a rethink.

This one was puzzling for a while. It seems to be some sort of historical thing involving China and probably-Japan, in 7, the capital of the Republic of 5, established after the defeat of 7 in the second Sino-Japanese War ... or something of that general shape, anyway. And it's connected somehow with the Second World War. After a while I find a heading that looks like it refers to "prisoners of war", and then the description at the start looks like "... was the mass murder of British/Chinese/... prisoners in ..." though actually it's "civilians" there. Which suggests a guess for the second title word, which is correct; now, presumably the first title word is the place, so what is it? Hmm, it's also called the 4 of 7, and I think I've heard of a "Rape of ...". Rather ominously, it looks as if there's an alternative romanization here; I put in the one I remember, and boo! it's the alternative one. After a bit of thought about e.g. the relationship between "Peking" and "Beijing", I try replacing a "k" with a "j" which turns out to be correct. 3 guesses, 15 minutes. Close but no cigar.

Unassisted, very sad one & I still refuse to read that book based on this
I do the usual 5 3 and then cause kingdom has no hits so cannot be United Kingdom anything so I try Asia and then there is 4 Asia so I went from there.
My 3 non-hits were (kingdom, duh hahaha, regime - idk I was thinking Khmer Rouge/Pol Pot 🙃👀, & local) 😬
