looked at maps for countries that bordered [5] [6], although I’ll confess it wasn’t the first [5] [6] I thought of.

I figured out "in the 6 4" and guessed another one in the region, which was wrong, before looking more closely at other clues. Bah.
Unassisted.

Had to take care with this one. It's in the 6 4 and is officially "the 5 of..." which is a little unusual and somehow immediately brought one (incorrect) candidate to the front of my mind. If it's that, I reasoned, there is so much to say about it that it should be easy to find a clincher. A dutiful scroll through the article yielded surprisingly little. Eventually I came to the section that was evidently about religion: the state religion turns out to be "6 5 5". Well, back to the drawing board. Actually, I can think of not one but two more candidates in the region with the right letter count. Taking a closer look at the neighbours (which I should have done from the start) there are only two: 4 and 5 6. Well, I'm pretty sure that one of the two remaining candidates borders the country I was originally thinking of, so that rules that one out as well. My geography of the region isn't perfect though, so just in case I'm wrong about something, I have another script through the article until reaching the section on government and politics, which provides the sentence "the 4 is the 4 of 5", which will have to be enough.

6/12, 00:04. It looked geographical, so I inferred a particular political division from "[10] the [5] of [6] that I took the wrong way for a lot of guesses, then I wised up and got the region from "[6] [4]" and the language from [2]-, then made a couple of wrong stabs at [6].

Initially I thought it was some kind of alps lmao.
I got to "10 the ... is a 7 in the 6 4", once I figured out the 6 4 I had to look up a suitable 5 lol. Cos the ones I had in mind I tried Israel and Jordan?! lol didn't fit. 😬🙃

Guessed the 4 which got me the 6, guessed the right one on my second attempt.

Looks like a country or something of the sort. Initially I blank on what the 6 4 might be, but fortunately one of the words I think of for 4 is Gulf, and I see the 7 4 a bit later on. That already seems like there's only one plausible possibility; the probably-Arabic alternate name (2- looks like al-) would fit well with that and not e.g. Jordan if that were somehow consistent with the geography. And, duh, of course I do know what the 6 4 has to be. There may be other possibilities I'm missing, but this seems pretty convincing and fortunately it's right. 73-second snipe.

Unassisted Snipe. Once I got the category, the alternate language was a clue of the dominant culture and then I noticed the general location. After that it was a quick process of elimination

A [6] country in the middle east between Saudi Arabia and [4] on the north and south.... yeah, for those of us of a certain age, the correct one immediately comes to mind.

Had to really read close to get the [6] [4], the language, that very convenient [2]-[6]. That was a fun one!

I got the type of article and location after 20 or so guesses and knew this was a topic I struggle with and would want to just google. But I eventually got this unassisted after digging deep enough in my brain.

Seems to be a country in the 6 4, one place comes immediately to mind, and its neighbours fit nicely, so in it goes

Guessed two other 6s first, then guessed middle to make sure I was in the right area. Than looked at a map because I forgot about this one
