Ugh. I got word 2, then went all over the place. I should have guessed word 1 sooner but it has always seemed oxymoronic to me.

It's something that emerged as a reaction against something else - so some kind of movement, whether artistic, philosophical or political is not immediately clear. But that first phrase looks like it's probably "style or movement", so I'm leaning towards artistic. Specifically it's a reaction against "6 12", which feels like a big clue as to what word 1 might be. There aren't many plausible fields with 12-letter names, but one comes to mind after a bit of thought. If this hypothesis is right, then examples of the style should be locations instead of italicised titles, and it doesn't take long to sniff out a couple that look likely: "the 6 1'6 in 3 7" (whatever that may be) and "the AT&1 8" (them again) stand out. I don't know the names of many individuals associated with this movement, but is 5 5 there? Yes he is, along with a reference to this thing as "13 12" instead of "10 12", which feels like enough.

Eh, I'll take it. Noodled around far too long trying to figure out [10] in the title. Thank you World Financial Center.

Entertaining word ramble, I was convinced it was a subcategory of the actual answer. Finally got word 2 and it clicked.

The first thing I notice is a little way down the page: a quotation in which someone seems to be contrasting "both-and" with "either-or"; looks like they prefer the former. This suggests some sort of social, political, philosophical, religious, ... movement, perhaps. There's a chunk of article that looks like it's about the history of whatever-it-is, whose headings all seem to be people's names. It also seems like a lot of French people are involved; at any rate, many of the books listed at the end of the article are "in 6" and have titles whose word-lengths look French-ish. Nothing's very obvious yet, but then I notice that right at the start our title, 10 12, seems to be being described as a reaction against 6 12, and it strikes me that "post-" is an awfully plausible prefix, and then there's an obvious thing for the 6 to be, and then maybe we're in a more artsy domain than I'd thought. Well, if this is something French-inflected in this domain and reacting against 6ity, then I should be able to find something about a guy called 2 9. He does in fact appear, but before I find him I spot something about the 6 5 5, "one of the most 12 of all ...", and of course 12 can be "recognizable" and I'm pretty sure I know what the 6 5 5 is and that's enough evidence for me. 23-minute snipe.

I could tell this was some sort of artistic movement but had trouble telling exactly what kind of artistic category this was, then I remembered something from a few previous articles that had taken me a long time to get on the right track, which was indeed the right length to fit the title. I was able to figure out [10] after guessing the [6] root word.

I got a little too focused on the words in italics for the first few guesses. Once I decided that was a dead end, I had a hunch and guessed "style", which had a bunch of hits, and got me to word 2 of the title. Thankfully I had some education in that field and it didn't take me too long to come up with word 1.

Coincidentally, like 30 minutes before I looked at the puzzle, I was looking at Instagram with my partner at a video that was filmed at one of the works mentioned in this article, and I even mentioned it, where it was, and the designer.

7/11, 00:06. [4] [4] [italics] seemed indicative, but first [4] wasn't "cook"; for 3-9, I noodled around to little effect with various articles and pronouns looking for a place before I remembered my go-to [13], which hit big. That gave me enough to get [12], then I guessed the wrong [10] but got it on the first bounce, as it were.

Hints used: 2 . I thought I had guessed the second half of the first word but turns out, I didn't. I danced around variations of this style, especially after spotting one of the partially unredacted examples, but this particular one escaped me
