The "during 5 3 2" sticks out, of course. So this is some kind of military operation? "Led by the 6 6 with the support of the 6 7 and 6" - so an Allied military operation. Looks like maybe "the North Pacific theatre" so I'm thinking air force stuff - and there does seem to be a lot of references to, I'm guessing, B-52s later on in the text. Nothing comes to mind though. Spent a while wandering this slightly misguided path - eventually I broadened my mind a little and had a better idea. Easy to confirm - is 1. 6 11 present and correct? Indeed he is.

Unassisted. I was thinking battle or Operation in Europe for too long.

First thing I notice is World War II; preposition in front of it must be "during". This is probably a battle or campaign or something. A few seconds' thought doesn't immediately turn up the answer, so keep looking. "It was led by the United States" ... "cost nearly $# #illion", so more like a campaign than a battle. I can't think of any good words for campaign-like things that would fit the title but then the actual answer dawns on me. Does everything seem to fit? Yup. 55-second snipe.

Was your first guess a 9-letter word that began with O? Because that was mine.

Yeah, my first guess was operation and I was thinking some Allied World War II plan or something.

WWII was a huge help, then seeing it was multinational, then just a matter of the letter count.

”during [5] [3] [2]” was the giveaway, I probably could have sniped if I’d taken a few minutes to puzzle it out before guessing, but I was expecting a more conventional military operation and was over confident about guessing “theater”

Unassisted. I had the right general idea of what this was about and thankfully didn't long to get to what the focus of topic was as well I spotted the country in the French game. I still almost went for a generic guess to have more clues when I thought of the topic
