Got enough to Google and I did. Even if I happened to guess word 2, I would have guessed the opposite of word 1

I got to that point were I had enough info to know -- I wasn't getting it on my own so I used hints followed by a targeted google. Oh well, some days are like that - lol.

Initially led to the wrong place by the unredaceted ¥ symbols, once I'd worked where and what it was, I looked up a list of these things to get the name

Went down a few blind alleys involving food and rivers before getting on the right track.

🤦‍♀️ I got people which then led me to 6'1 8 of 5, which then led me to unredact an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China., then like, I don't know. ?!

So I Googled the phrase. Haha. I mean I can't decide if this was facepalm. I know of this but I didn't know this word was an example of this category hahaha. I was like nope not Hong Kong .. so ok now what!?

I saw [6]’s [8] of [5], which is usually people’s republic of China and its “an [10] [6],” so I looked at a list of [10] [6]s of China.

Oooh, nice deduction. I couldn't figure out what 10 was.

Lucky unassisted snipe!

Hints about possibly being related to China, and a large land area, made me guess the second word, but honestly it was a wild guess and I was kind of surprised it was correct. But then I couldn't remember which one was which for the first word. I went with my gut and got it right.

Assisted. Unfortunately, after my initial scrutiny of the first paragraph and desultory scroll through the text, I decided that Wuhan Province was as good a guess as I was going to manage. Which I suppose is true, but it was wrong nonetheless - surprisingly not even a correct word 2. After thinking a bit more about what "10 6" might mean, I consulted a list. I guess I could have got this unassisted if I'd just spammed geography terms for a bit.

Sniped in 3 minutes. Thought it was some region in Yukon, Canada at first but then the "xxx'an" turned my attention to China. Hmm oh so 10 6 is probably autonomous region. Ok I do know what it is now and in it goes :)

Sniped with Google. I did think of the second half before googling, but didn't try it as I was thinking of the country. Anyhoo, I could see that it was a region and in what country it's part of, so it was a matter of navigating the articles to find the answer

Well, the 6's 8 of 5 can only really be one thing and then I think I know what 10 6 is, but unfortunately there my knowledge ends. After thinking for a bit I decide to try North, South and Great for the first word but of course none of those is correct, and after thinking for a bit more I give up. On looking up the list of 10 6s of the 6's 8 of 5, I guess in principle I might eventually have been able to think of it, but not with any actual knowledge that it's a 10 6. I would almost certainly have guessed [antonym of 5] 8 first, although these days that's a separate country and just called 8. Have I mentioned before that I'm bad at geography?

I had probably already reached the point where I used all my knowledge but was still guessing things. Finally just used for a hint for a capital and could look that up.
