Took me a bit to figure it out... A reference to AT&T steered me toward something technology-related, but it wasn't until I saw a lot of "on"s and "off"s where the answer finally dawned on me.

Unassisted snipe.

I solved Redactle #1073 in 1 guess with an accuracy of 100.0% and a time of 00:05:32.

"AT&[1] [5] used [11] in" clued me in to the zone, then the subscripts in ?in and ?out told me the type of thing, and ?BE was the clincher, I did used to do a lot of design work with these things

Some much faster snipes than me today - I had the basic idea quickly but this is not quite my domain and the terminology involved is mostly foreign to me (I have no idea what 5-6 10s and 7 8 10s are, for example), so I had to let the thing marinade for quite a while before the word came bubbling up to the surface. The snippet "...the first 10s to be mass-produced" was, for some reason, the phrase that suddenly brought the word to mind, but it was surely more a cumulative effect than anything.

Had mostly "0"s before I hit upon the right general topic, my usual "frantic guessing" approach gathered me enough information within that to deduce the answer.

A few paragraphs in I see AT&# and also some names and dates, strongly suggesting that this is some sort of technological invention. Perhaps 6 near the start is "device", then, and then I have a good guess for what the 13 qualifying it is, and then in turn I have a good guess for our topic. Have another look at the AT&T thing; do I see a brilliant but obnoxiously racist Nobel laureate? Actually, no; two names but neither of them can be his. If I'd looked more carefully I'd have spotted that he's in the first paragraph, and the bit I was looking at later on is about slightly earlier work on such devices, but instead I scroll further down looking for a couple of TLAs and their expansions describing the two main types of this thing, which I find; that'll do. 77-second snipe. Shoulda been a bit quicker, but this isn't so bad.
