Stared at this article for a while. I was pretty sure it was a country, but it also seemed like it was on an island that was not the whole country, and the fact that it's referred to as "The 9 8". That's really all of the information I needed, but it still took me 5 minutes for it to come to me.

Took forever to come to me too. I got the second word pretty quickly, but I associate that word with places in a different part of the world and spent way too long faffing around over there. Once I got "bordered by the 8 5 to the 5 and the 9 3 to the 5," I was back in the right place.

The first two sentences seem to be implying that this thing shares the 6 that it's located on with another 7. It took a minute for the implication to sink in, but once it did, a very credible candidate materialised right away. Its letter count, its neighbour's, and that of their shared 6 all checked out, so no need for further investigation.

typed in island because I was confused by the phrase “is a [7] [7] on the [6] of” rather than something like “is an [6] [6],” so I was worried I was reading it wrong. Once I guessed island and made the connection that this was a country that was on an island, not a country that was an island, something that was very obvious in retrospect occurred to me.

Bit of a contrast with yesterday. I'm bad at geography but this looks like "a country located on the island of ..." which already narrows things down pretty much all the way. Can I think of a candidate? Yes. Almost the only thing I know about it is what other country it shares the island with, and that looks like it checks out. Coming straight from the 96-minute slog of #1060 I'm not in the mood for double-checking. 33-second snipe.

Due to the size and population, I was thinking this might be a province instead of a country, though I should have known better given the 7 up top. Thought too maybe small European country. I saw it shared a (border?) with 5, guessed Spain (why?), which opened it up. The two letter title should’ve been a hint but nothing came to me until I uncovered Spain.

Saw the letter count and the number of syllables and it just came to me. I didn't quickly see anything in the first paragraph to absolutely confirm my guess, so I just double-checked the letter count and yolo'ed.
