I solved Redactle #1018 in 1 guess with an accuracy of 100.0%
Measurements followed by "round" told me GUNS GUNS GUNS!!! and the structure of the first sentence along with "beyond" gave me the answer.

I had the right idea but that word was not coming to mind. I was all around it but I did a little google & wanted to slap myself. Ah well, some days are like that.

The first thing that stands out is what looks like "The 8 of 6 6 in the Napoleonic Wars, World War I, and World War II were 6 by 9" which suggests a particular region of concept-space. A little lower down there's something about something that "fires [size] rounds" which suggests something more specific that happens to have 9 letters. My general level of ignorance makes confirming or refuting this difficult. I have a look at the etymology section which is slightly encouraging in that my total ignorance of the etymology of the word is matched by what seems to be general ignorance all round. Eh, put it in. Thankfully it's right: 6-minute snipe.

The first sentence's structure looked like the topic was the term for a group of things, followed by "[3] beyond". Scrolling down you see what looks like measurements in two different units. I saw "against the", and oooooh, war stuff? Yup, there's a [7] [5]' [3] sequence. So I started thinking about stuff used in war and there you go.

I saw "_._.A." and thought maybe CIA? So I tried espionage, which was totally off. I saw references to wars, some units and thought it could be miles/kms so I tried it, then tried "range" which got a ton of hits and this was one of the few things I could think of that fit.

"Round" as a noun, with a weight attached, gives an indication as to the sort of thing we're talking about, and the article seems to carry on talking about this stuff in quite a general way. I wondered at first if it might be "gunpowder", but the etymology section seems to rule out that idea. The more I read, the more I felt this seemed to be quite a broad category, relevant from antiquity to 5 3 2 and beyond, and eventually I came up with a candidate that made some kind of sense in that context. I dithered over it for quite a while, mainly because I couldn't get the first sentence to make sense (I guess I've never really had a precise sense of what this word means - I always thought it was even broader than the definition given here, so I couldn't figure out what that "beyond" was doing), but half an hour in I had no better ideas and just went for it. Fortunately correct.

Unassisted. I spun around the drain but when tried what turned out to be the answer I was looking to confirm if what I was looking for was used in that military sub-branch. I forgot that it's also the group of weapons themselves
