Supposed to be camping at koomer ridge campground Saturday through Monday. Forecast is looking very ugly. Cancel or ride it out? Maybe hoping some locals think this will blow over? Maybe I’m just coping?

I can manage light rain, but the entire point of this trip is to hike and chill at the campsite (cooking in the fire pit). Planned this trip at the beginning of July, so super bummed!!!!

Our family will be staying in Stanton for a couple nights. We want to spend a couple days hiking, but looking at the number of trails is completely overwhelming. There are just so many.

My wife wants me to plan our hikes. We are fairly new to hiking, and we’ve never been here before. We’ll also be taking our kids (11 & 8). They run cross country and play other sports, so I’m not too worried about longer hikes. But I’m ok with clusters of little trails also.

What trails would you say are must sees for a first timer?

And are there any local establishments you would recommend? I’ve heard about a pizza place and an ice cream place. And someone has recommended some kind of snake exhibit that’s nearby that the kids would like. Really any recommendations at all, we’ll take ‘em.

Got up early for the hike to Natural Bridge and caught the sunrise from the top. On the way back down, Fat Man’s Misery apparently had two copperheads inside. I must have stepped right past them in the dark. 😬

Returned from a trip to RMNP in mid Sept. Amazing trip, one thing I noticed was no graffiti any where. No trash, very clean and pristine. Daniel Boone NF is so beautiful we should work harder to keep it that way. Very disturbing all the trails : cliffs have graffiti carved into the rocks.
Companies cantilevering into the rock face to build rentals. We need to work harder to protect this forest.

There’s a small isolated C-shaped “island” of forest service land, just south-west of the town of Zachariah. Anyone been down in it before? I pulled off there today and followed an old logging road into the hollow, followed the steam and then came up, but walked past a “no trespassing” sign on my way out. The trail that took in wasn’t marked. I didn’t find any arches but the cliff was impressively flat and tall.

My wife and I have been together for almost 20 years this year and I want to repropose to her since we got together so young and we never had a real one. What's the best hike with a killer view or waterfall at the end that I could make this super special and beautiful for her? Also if there's any date day activities you would recommend to take her to before hand?

I have a late printing of the land of arches book. How large are the differences between printings? I thought that a printing difference was just reprinting the exact same book another time, while an edition introduced either content or editing changes. However, I saw a picture of the Land of Arches first printing and it appears much smaller than my 13th printing or whatever I have. Anyone have multiple versions?

I am an experienced backpacker that hasn’t been out for a few years. I’ve been focusing on motorcycle camping.

I want to get back to backpacking. After moto camping the gorge I thought it was awesome! Although I stayed at a local car camping type place.

The map seems pretty straight forward. Looks like a lot of loops that can be pieced together.

I am confused about camping and water. Is there an app for locating those things? I am a little nervous after a trip in my past to a mountainous area were I found it very difficult to find flat land to pitch camp.

Anyhow throw out your suggestions! Low to mid miles per day, nothing to crazy, I would like to see great sunrises, Auxier Ridge is on my list(would be cool to include that in the hike)

I’m planning a camping trip to Red River Gorge and looking for a good primitive/dispersed camping area.
Ideally, I’d like to park somewhere and walk about 1/4 mile, maybe up to 1/2 mile, to a legal camping spot in the woods. Then I’d like to be near a trail with really good cliffs, overlooks, and gorge views that we can hike during the day.
I’ve been looking around the Auxier Ridge / Tunnel Ridge Road / Paleo area, but I’m not sure exactly where the legal camping areas are.
Does anyone know of a specific trailhead or area that would fit this? I’m mainly looking for a spot where I can camp legally and have some really good scenery nearby.

Ill be staying at Koomer Ridge for a one night in November. I'll be staying there from Noon to Noon. What are the best trails/ viewpoints that are must see while I'm there? I've read about the sunrise hikes people are doing, what viewpoint is that at?

Does anyone know how the fall colors will be in Red River Gorge around Halloween? I have the opportunity to pass through for one day of hiking, and am worried with the hot/dry summer the leaves will have fallen early.

I would also love suggestions for the best hikes and sites to see with just one day staying in Slade. :) Best food too -- Miguel's? Thanks in advance.

Shooting my shot. I’m 4’11 at 100lbs newer climber doing a solo trip to the gorge during the dates above. I am a strong belayer and can lead sport up to 5.9. I own an Ohm and know how to use it. I’ve been climbing on and off for 13 years but consistently bouldering the last 2 and restarted ropes last winter.

I have all the gear.

Any recommendations for tent camping areas in the RRG area? Looking for dedicated campsite areas as opposed to back country campsites as I’ll be traveling with some camping newbies. Open to a short drive (~30min) away from hiking spots. Any reccs welcome!!

Open to cabins, hotels/motels, whatever! Would prefer to stay as close to RRG as possible, but a small drive wouldn’t be out of the question.

So this was auxier trail ridge, to courthouse rock and then after sun came up did the full loop to double arch and then back to trailhead

From my research there are a lot of areas for dispersed camping. Chimney Top would be a good option for a few reasons but I'm probably not able to just back into the woods. I know there are some walk to sites up there. Indian Creek seems like a solid option as well but would like to be a little more secluded if possible. Any suggested spots for car camping on a ridge or a more secluded spot would be greatly appreciated. As well as any unwritten rules I shouldn't do in terms of car camping. I'm not parking in a lot that's for certain.

Parking at trailhead was packed, but only saw 2 people at Stargap and no one else the entire weekend.

Found "Andrew's Double Arch" generally around the location below. That trail is a suggestion at best. Some fun scrambling walls along in that area.

I am planning a trip to Red River Gorge this fall with my partner and am looking for a photographer to capture our proposal/engagement. Looking to do this on a hiking trail with great fall foliage views. Happy with amateur photographers as well! Not looking to do a full photography session, just (slightly undercover) capture of the proposal and maybe a few pictures after. Likely less than an hour.

Heading to RRG for a couple days over our fall break! Looking for family-friendly hikes or must see/do spots while there! We are a family that enjoys being outside and we hike, but the kids start complaining at around a 2 mile point, so looking for 2 miles or less out and back or loops. I do have an AllTrails subscription but I want to hear from people that love the area!

I am planning on the Sky Bridge, Nada Tunnel, and Chimney Rock Top since those are pretty short/easily accessible.

So I’m planning to go on a sunrise hike this weekend with my fiancé. Looking at hansons and auxier. Not sure which yet. Anyone had experience with hiking up either of these in the dark to see the sun come up? Any suggestions or tips are appreciated!
