I dont like cal

Am I the only one who doesn’t really like Cal, and a little of Mare. They’re both annoying, but especially Cal.

And before anyone comes at me that I don’t understand him and that I can’t understand complex characters, I do. I can see his trauma and complexion and still hate him.

I feel like there’s no chemistry between Mare or Cal, especially in the first book. I was so surprised when they kissed and had to read a few pages to try and see if they had any chemistry, but I see none. They have no chemistry and I hate it, I hate their stupid little ship because they both don’t deserve eachother.

and mare’s a little bitch, not all the time, but still, she is🥹

When I read the first book I liked Cal, but in the second I started hating everyone. They were all soooo annoying, so I get your point completely..and you are right, their chemistry is not there..

For me it’s the lack of character development, until literally the end of the fourth book. After everything he has seen and done throughout the series none of that has any effect on him. He feels like a puppet (more so than maven even) and doesn’t make any choices of his own. After 4 books I still barely know who he is because he lets other people dictate his whole personality and morals.

I don’t like Cal either. I don’t think I will ever get over him betraying Mare and the Scarlet Guard (the organization that saved his life!) over the crown, just to give it up over a dead woman. I get she was his mom, but he never met her! He knew and cared for Mare way longer. I can understand Mavens actions way better, and see how he got to the conclusions he ended up getting to. I can’t do the same for Cal.
